Spring Already?

We are finally catching a bit of a break from the weather. We were in the mid thirties yesterday and they are calling for forties today. The sun has been shining and the snow is starting to melt on some of our south slopes and around the trees. There is still about eight inches of hard snow in the woods and it will be a while before the hollows get warmed up enough to melt snow. I saw a ground hog sitting up behind the lodge this morning. He was sitting on about six inches of hard snow and I could clearly see his shadow. Does that mean six more weeks of winter or is he with the rest of us and protesting the length of winter? Either way I think he was still wearing his long underwear! I found a larger shed this week and saw another large buck sporting only one side. It would appear that they are all finally closing out the season now. It is time to start the shed hunting and I have plans of heading out this afternoon! Even the deer know it is coming and I have spotted several groups out early in the evenings in the sun shine hitting the bare spots in the food plots. It has been a long winter for all of us! The turkeys are screaming and putting on quite a display these days. They can be heard and seen at all of our locations and I still have two hunts available for this spring. It is great to finally be talking about spring and by the end of spring gobbler season we will be hunting in short sleeves! (At least I am keeping my fingers crossed!)
