May Day!

It has seemed like April would last forever but May has finally arrived and we are looking forward to warmer temperatures and more sunshine? All of the scenery is turning green at a very rapid pace and all of the farmers are scrambling to get their fields ready for early May planting. We finished up all of our spring food plot work this week and then received our showers to soak everything into the ground.

The mature bucks can easily been spotted from a distance now and some of the earlier growers are already starting to show the brow tines. All of the deer are shedding those heavy winter coats now and currently have a very light colored shaggy appearance. This timing also seems to be appreciated by the local nesting birds, just another example of recycling, as the shed deer hair is woven into the new nest of early spring. Our mature does are also getting closer to fawning and we should begin to see some fawns toward the end of this month.
