Our St Patrick’s Day 2014 is looking like a great day! Sun is shining and the temps are supposed to head in the right direction. It was down to five degrees this morning and that is just starting to get old. The best thing we have going for us right now is the fact that spring is coming officially the end of this week! We managed to get rid of most of our snow this past week and even had a few days of heavy sticky mud. (I would like to go on record as stating that I hate mud!) The bare ground has given the deer a break and they can at least browse on some of the grass and leaves. It should not be long before we start to see things start to slowly get greener and even the trees seem ready to pop their buds if we could only get a week of good decent temps. I was able to find a couple of sheds this past weekend and it is starting to get a bit easier now that the snow has left most areas. I did spot a larger buck last week that still had his antlers and my guess is that he is one of the last hold outs. The rivers are high again from the thaw last week and the reports are still saying that the steelhead are building at the mouth of the rivers and waiting for the ice flow to flush on out into the lake. The current ice cover on Lake Erie is at 85% and with a few good days forecasted that should pull back quickly this next week.
