We can finally close the book on March 2014 and what a difference a week makes or even a few days. We had four inches of wet heavy snow last Saturday and then today we are in the high sixties with sunshine! The birds all sound better and the critters of all kinds are out enjoying the break. We even had our first crocus of the year bloom today and that is a sure sign that we are going to be hearing peepers in the near future. Our rivers are way high now as the four inches of snow has now melted and is pushing towards Lake Erie. This warm flow should be the surge we were waiting for and the steelhead should be running before the week is over. Our plans are to run a few scouting trips this week and with any luck we will have some photos to share soon. The turkeys are also gobbling loudly and often now and the “strutters” can be seen out in the fields pretty much all day. The hens of course are not ready yet but when they are there will be no shortage of gobblers for them. I am expecting this year to be as good as we have had for turkeys. We have a couple of new farms available to us and the turkeys are in numbers on both new locations.
