Turkey Season 2014

Our turkey season has opened with a bang in 2014! We started off the youth season this past Saturday hunting with Matthew. This was our seventh season hunting together. We shared another exciting hunt this year as we had at least two gobblers fighting over our decoys and Matthew started our season of right with a 23 pound long beard! Next we had the state opener this morning and again we were joined by an old friend that has been with us for several seasons. Jack had decided to give it a try this year with his crossbow. The birds were not quite as vocal this morning but it was a very easy sit with the temps in the 40’s and the beautiful sunrise. We were finally joined by two Jakes and Jack took his first gobbler of 2014 with his crossbow! We have several more turkey hunts schedule for this spring and with any luck the weather and turkeys will continue to hold out perfect for us. Our bucks are all showing antler growth now and the mature bucks are well above the hairline now and showing some incredible mass! (I do love velvet antlers!) They are all enjoying the warmer temps and greener food plots and hopefully I can get the new crops planted for them in the coming weeks.
