May Flowers

It looks like the April showers have done their job as the May flowers have been showing up everywhere! Finally we can see spring starting to unfold and there appears to be hope that there will be a summer this year. We did have a pretty good frost again this morning and the temps are in the low thirties. The apple blossoms will be out sometime in the next week or so and this is a critical time for our fall apple crop! Keep your fingers cross that we can get at least the majority thru the frost season.

Our bucks are all looking good and the antlers can be seen from a considerable distance now. The velvet always makes them look huge but it does help to create excitement this early in the growing season. The deer are all in the process of shedding their winter coats and they look shaggy right now. The does are really starting to show now and we could start seeing fawns by the end of this month!

The long drawn out winter has the turkeys all messed up and late this year and it is making the hunting difficult. We spent all of last week watching turkeys from a distance and only an occasional hen would come in to the decoys. The gobblers are sounding off decent on the limbs but go silent as soon as they hit the ground. We are scheduled to try it again this week and hopefully they will cooperate better.

The rains from last week had the rivers way up and this should have brought in new steelhead. The streams are just now fishable again and we will be checking them in the next few days for fish.
