July

Wow, I think as long as it took summer to get here it is going to slip by quickly this year. Already into July that means we will be hunting in just over two months!

The weather in Ohio continues to be on the wetter side this year. Hopefully we will get at least enough drier weather for the farmers to get the hay up for the year. Thunderstorms continue to roll thru every couple of days and the regular rainfall has our food plots looking as good as they have in several years. The few apples that we have and the acorns are still looking good as well this year.

Our trophy bucks are continuing to add antler every day and you can see the main frames pretty clearly on most of them. There is still considerable tine length to be added with any luck a couple of them will develop some drop tines. They are all so impressive with the velvet on this time of year but the mature bucks are starting to pull away now. A trophy buck will always look better regardless of the time of year.

We spotted a hen turkey this week with young poults and they were just a little smaller than a robin. I would say that suggest that she did not start sitting on the nest until around the first of June. That would explain the tough close to our spring gobbler season this year.
