Hunting Soon

It is not hard to believe that July is rapidly slipping thru our fingers! Summer vacation always does and the older we get the worse it becomes. The 2014 hunting season will be here in just over a month! The bucks will still be in there summers routines and the antlers will be hard within the next 45 days. If you have a local buck pinned down to a routine then you need to try and get on him as soon as possible. Once the nights start to cool and the antlers shed the velvet it will not be long until the norm switches. You might be lucky enough to still see the mature buck of your dreams but it is also possible that he will be pushed slightly deeper into the woods or even onto the adjacent property. Either way it will be hunting season soon!

Our mature bucks are continuing to add tine length and mass. They should start to finish up before long and we have even seen a few of the younger bucks showing lighter velvet already. If you see the really dark looking velvet it is most likely still growing. Once it has turned a lighter tan color it will normally start to tighten as the bone begins to harden. After this starts to show up it will not belong until we start to see hard antlers.
