Yep, it’s here whether we are ready or not, August. Last month of summer and time to start finalizing those plans for your Ohio Deer Hunt! What an exciting time of year it is to be a hunter. The trophy bucks can be seen from a considerable distance with their velvet antlers. The mornings are cool, golden rod has started to bloom, the acorns are close to finished and fall is in the air! (Maybe that’s pollen?) You should be shooting your bow regular now and the ground hogs have kept your shooting skills sharp. Now is the time to pull the trigger on that Trophy Deer Hunt! Most outfitters still have good dates available but they will start to fill quickly as the season begins to change to fall. This is also a great time of year to contact the land owners to make sure nothing has changed if you are hunting private land on your own. Much better to find out now that there was a timber sale in your favorite woods or he has leased to a group of neighbors.

The weather here in NE Ohio has continued to be more like September than July. An additional two inches of rain this week still has everything in the preserve soft and green. (Nice way of saying muddy!) All of the food plots continue to look great because of the extra water but it would be nice to dry out for a couple weeks. The cooler than normal temps also have the deer moving more at all times of the day and night. We have been seeing some exceptional mature bucks and there appears to be a good mix between clean typicals and great looking non-typicals.
