Velvet Buck

While the weather has been gearing up toward winter this last week the rut has started to taper off. We were joined by our friends Darryl and Amy again this week and this year it was Amy’s turn to be the hunter! After sitting with Darryl in 2013 when he took the “Kick Stand Buck”, she was open to seeing a few different bucks before deciding on her trophy. Amy showed she was willing to wait for the buck of her dreams when she allowed a great 5x6 walk not once but two different times. Then when we spotted the “Velvet Buck” she knew that was the buck she wanted if he would give us an opportunity. After “pretty many” hours on stand we were presented our chance with just fifteen minutes left during shooting hours. This great buck still had some name sake velvet clinging to his left antler and he scored 221” with 26 scorable points! Great buck Amy!

The Temperatures have been dropping to single digits at night and only coming up into the low twenties during the day, Combine these temps with about four new inches of snow and you have the makings for a great mid-November hunt. We are hoping to warm up just a bit for the next week and with any luck we can find a couple of more great bucks as we move toward Thanksgiving!
