January Freeze

When the winter found us again it was serious. We have had a run of single digits and snow now since the New Year. We have even seen sub-zero on several mornings. Most of our super cold mornings are filled with sunshine and it can be deceptively cold if you are looking out the window from the warm lodge.
The cold temperatures mean it is time for our 2015 Clear Cut. This is one of our annual habitat improvement projects and I time it so that it also provides winter browse for the deer. I have the cutting about one quarter finished and the deer are hitting the fresh cuts every night. It also helps keep me out of the lodge so that I don’t get to much “cabin fever”!
We received notification yesterday from SCI that two of our 2014 bucks has once again made the “Top 10”. Both of these bucks are in the Typical category taken with a crossbow! Our plans to keep our frames clean and go for the “look” are paying off. We are looking forward to more great typical trophy bucks this next year.
