While the race fans were enjoying a warm sunny day in Daytona, we also had a sunny warm (30 degrees) in NE Ohio. It’s not much but the break from the sub-zero temperatures and heavy snow was appreciated if only briefly. We had a new record this week -29 degrees and we also had a new eight inches of snow. This morning we were treated to a beautiful sunrise with the frozen fog glistening on the distant trees. I have been forced into a new mode of transportation to check fence because of the deep snow. It is not nearly as much fun as the Ranger. I am looking forward to switching back!
The deer are really locked down tight right now with very little movement other than to feed. Most days if we spot a deer it is laying on a south slope out of the wind and hoping like the rest of us for sunshine. I saw one half racked buck last week and have not seen any antlers since. It will soon be time for the next generation of trophy bucks to begin growing. With all of the cold snow and ice around it is hard to remember that next week will hit March and hopefully spring is less than a month away!
Our contest to “Name the New Stand” has been getting several great entries and it is fun to see them as they are entered. You still have until March 1st if you have not submitted a name yet. Our current entries are:
