April Showers

We are finally making it out of March 2015 and with any luck our April will start a warming trend here in NE Ohio. The last day of March started off with a white ground this morning and thirty-three degrees. There have also been higher winds this week and they are beginning to help dry out our saturated ground.
The pastures and food plots are starting to show signs of green and the deer are taking full advantage of them. Take an early evening drive and you should see several deer out in the fields. Just at dark two days ago as we finished chores we spotted a mature buck that was already showing some growth on his antlers. (Just above the hair line.) Any buck showing antlers this early will surely turn into a trophy whitetail before this fall.
The rivers have finally opened up for us and we spent three days on a different river each day. There are some steelhead working their way in but the numbers are still very spotty. The lake at the mouth of a couple of the rivers are still frozen and the ice maybe making it harder for them to access the rivers. We caught a few but it is just the tip of our iceberg I hope.
