Showers?

If April showers will bring us May flowers we sure are going to have a bunch of flowers next month! Our temperatures are rising and at least we don’t have to shovel the rain. Our forecast for the next seven days has five days of rain. The up side to all of this rain has to be the green colors that seem to be popping everywhere. Our woods here at the preserve now have ramps and trout lilies everywhere. Combine this with the new green clover coming up in the food plots and it is starting to make you feel like spring is finally coming to NE Ohio.

The deer are showing signs of spring and look very shaggy right now as they are shedding their winter hair and will soon show the red color of summer. Some of the mature bucks are already showing great antler growth. We have several that have antlers a strong 2-3” above the hair line and can easily be seen from a distance. The trail cameras will be coming out soon and the hopes of trophy bucks will begin for 2015!
The steelheads are in all of the rivers now and it is time to get fishing. Unfortunately the rains have the water levels way high and we cannot get to them yet. This is normal for steelhead season and we will be after them again once the rains let up.
Our turkeys seem to be breaking up now and they are slowly spreading out. It has been a frustrating and wet scouting season. The birds can be found on most of our farms already but hearing them because of the rain is a different story. At least the long wet walks have started to warm up a little finally.
