"Planting Moon"

The second full moon after the spring equinox is often called the “planting moon. This seems to be holding true this year as the weather has been perfect for getting on the fields. Most of the farmers in our area are really putting seed in the ground this week and we are also doing it here at Oak Ridge. Our acreage does not compare to the big farmers but our food plots are just as important to us. These plots will help develop our trophy bucks thru the summer and fall. This past week we have applied lime and fertilizer to all of our plots and replanted three of our clover/alfalfa plots. I changed it up a little this season and have put out a straight alfalfa plot to see if it will work for us. The P-1 and P-2 plots are also already plowed and with any luck we will have corn in them again by the end of the week.
I had to take a couple of photos this weekend as we finished up our new clover/alfalfa plots. What a great view it makes when you have the newly planted plots close to the newly green plots in the spring. It doesn’t hurt to mix in the new leaves popping out on the trees or the apple blossoms that are now starting to open!
