Wow! What a Start!

What an exciting week and beginning to our 2015 Deer Season! We had some extreme heat and humidity to start this week, and it had the deer holding tight except for early morning and last light in the evenings. We had success twice in the early morning, and once as the day came to a close. The mature bucks are split between velvet and hard antler now, and we took our first full velvet trophy buck this week.

We started out with Joe taking a great wide typical with a drop tine buck that had only been hard antler a few days. He was still sporting some very cool hanging velvet that really added to his character. Next Joe Sr. took a great velvet buck that scored 277”! What a way to celebrate his birthday! Bob finally closed the deal early this morning with his Ten Point crossbow and took a great 190” hard antlered trophy. He was rewarded for many long warm hours on stand with very little deer movement.

The weather reports are calling for a drop in temps and also some much needed rain. The cooler temps should trigger the balance of the bucks to shed, and will make our stand time much easier to endure as our 2015 hunting season is off and running!
